Awesome, honestly this works for me as well or better than xcloud.

2 questions
1) any recommended xbox controller/phone mounts ?

2) if playing on the same network as the xbox does it still stream out to a server then back to your phone/ipad or does it stream directly from console to phone?

1) I have tried many adapters and they’ve been OK. 8bitdo (they have a good reputation for re creating retro controllers) came out with a clip just this second half of the year in anticipation of xCloud, and it’s my favorite so far.

2) No, it does not go through an external server. It also does not beam directly from Xbox to your phone (only mentioning because PS Vita can do this with PS4). Instead, It will go through your own home network (meaning router, so having your Xbox plugged in via Ethernet and your phone on 5ghz wifi is best case scenario).

Can you do this with ps4? Looking forward to purchasing Cyberpunk.

Yeah, the PS4 has an App that allowed remote desktop-ping the Playstation for quite a while. Had Microsoft gone that route to begin with and then expand it as "remote desktopping" the server your renting from us, they probably would have been able to make this all fly (not now of course).

You’re in luck! It already exists.

This is awesome news! I’ll definitely download it and try it out tonight.

side note, did you mean to write Mb/s? Meaning mbps? Or did you mean MB/s? There’s a big difference in speed there.

What am I missing? Every game I select just says “launch on console”. How do I okay something on my phone?

Just a guess, but make sure your Xbox is on when you try this. If that works, then it could be a sleep setting. I used to have it set to just shut down the system completely. But the sleep option will allow it to wake up for streaming, and for updates.

Also, my app hadn’t updated itself. I had to manually update the app, so make sure you’re on latest.

That's cool. I'd rather them make a Mac Xbox app. I'd rather stream to my Mac than a smaller iPhone or iPad.

This is a good start! Now hopefully Apple and Microsoft can reach a deal on bringing XCloud to iOS too.
I guess Microsoft going the web app route through safari is good enough for me. Would love a native app though.

people will try this for a few hours, realize the how horrible it is, and then ask themselves what’s the big deal about xcloud if local streaming isn’t all that good.

another apple issue people overreact to for no real good reason
The PS4 app allows you to stream from your PS4 from all over the country. It’s great. I am sure this does the same. Steaming games is going to become more and more important.

I doubt it's good at all. The whole premise of it is silly. Unless our phones get so big we leave them at home on a dock mounted to the wall it's fundamentally bad.

Updated. It turned my Xbox on from my phone but then wouldn’t let me play anything.

The limitation of no backwards compatible original Xbox/Xbox 360 is weird. I wonder if it is a technical limitation, or if they blocked it on purpose for some other reason?

The coolest part is going to be sitting in the other room, using the Microsoft Xbox controller (favorite game controller to date) to stream to my iPad Pro while using AirPods - all to not interrupt the audio or video being watched on the TV for others. Very, very cool - if and when it works and doesn't lag to death... Which strangely happens more when my Xbox is plugged in via ethernet than when it's just on Wifi...

There is a $20 third party MacOS app that will let you do this:https://onecast.me/

I personally haven’t tried the MacOS version, but I did buy the iOS version a couple of years ago (since Microsoft wasn’t offering an alternative until today). It worked just as well relative to the official PS4 remote play app, I was pleased with the purchase.

And since it is a third-party app that you’re signing into, while there have been no issues at all with this company that I’m aware of, make sure to turn on two-factor authentication on your Microsoft account. Always good to do, just in case.

I've used it for my ps4. The input lag, disconnections, and visual stutters aren't worth using remotely. Occasionally I may use it over LAN but even then, I'm pretty much limited to slow single player games.

Maybe you need a better router. Streaming from my PC with Moonlight or Steamlink is fantastic. Over the internet streaming may be another story however.

It's not a matter of can you play the game with good FPS. It's the question of should you. Playing a game built for a TV and controller on a phone respects neither the artists who made the game or your own time.

Nope. Gone through Netgear, Google Wifi, and now Eero pro. All hardwired too. Input delay will always be annoying.

Steamlink is even worse. Sometimes I end up with a blank screen and it's due to some Windows error that popped up. I would need to walk over to my computer (or remote desktop in) to clear that error and try again.

I would never play multiplayer games over streaming, even when hardwired.

This is just dumb. First, im pretty sure “the artists who made the game” dont give a crap what your screen size is as long as you bought the game. Second, i play on a 12.9” screen which isnt much smaller than the majority of laptop screens, with an xbox controller.

It’s not a matter of FPS, but rather input lag. Anyway, still outdated thinking. Xbox game pass had 10 mil subscribers in May, and hit 15 million in September. Their whole philosophy this gen is play on any device you want or have. And the fact things like Google Stadia and Amazon Luna exists too, which can be vulnerable to the same network issues. Heck, even PlayStation Now is streaming. These game developers are putting games on cloud gaming services, so they surely expect it and are fine with it.
