I bought my wife a macbook and immediately did a fresh install of OS X.6.6, and even installed the trackpad update that Apple put out in July of 2010. I don't have inertial scrolling or the option to turn it on in the Trackpad settings.

    Any ideas?

I think onlythe macbooks with glass trackpads and no buttons have inertial scrolling capabilities.

I'm confused, was there a version of the mid 2009 Macbook with a glass trackpad and one without?

Not sure where you got your "facts," but...

My "facts" came from every website returned when googling for "inertial scrolling, " including MacRumors.

Apple must have changed the models affected after the initial press release. Very stupid on Apple's part, considering inertial scrolling is entirely software-driven. There is no reason it can't be enabled on older Macbooks.
