Replaced the original battery of my Mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro around a year with a NewerTech battery from MacSales.com. Lately the battery seems to be draining quickly, recalibrating doesn't change anything. It's draining really fast. Just tonight the laptop was at 100%, so I plugged in my iPhone 7 Plus (that was at 60%) and the laptop dropped down to 20% within several minutes while the iPhone only made it up to 65%. Seems like the iPhone would have been charged way before the laptop drained that low.

Maybe I had good luck with the original battery to last 7 years and bad luck with the new replacement battery at only 1 year.

Charged it to 100% last night, closed the lid and left it in standby mode. Then today woke it up and the battery showed it was at 23%...WTH?!

Probably bad cells in battery, third party batteries are pretty bad for that generally speaking, sadly. But very quick sudden big percentage drops tend to be a sign that there are bad/dead cells.

Nothing is running during sleep mode, that I can find. I completely shut the computer down last night with a 100% charge and when I turned it back on this evening it lost 8%. But within 20 minutes of light usage it was down to 40%. The battery health shows it at 100%. It's a NewerTech brand battery and they are supposed to be really good, better than the OEM Apple battery.

Decided to order another new battery from MacSales.com, this time I will monitor the battery much more closely.

Installed the replacement NewerTech battery and am conducting the calibration. The previous NewerTech battery was bulging. OWC said the battery should have lasted 2-3 years, but it barely lasted over a year. That explains why the trackpad stopped clicking, now it clicks normally. It's a shame the battery was just outside of the warranty when it started failing, but OWC gave me nice discount on a new battery.

I'm at the point in the battery calibration process where I'm discharging the fully charged battery and it went from 100% down to 93% in 5 minutes, kind of seems excess considering it's under light use right now.
