Hello, forum

My mid 2010 15" MBP is suffering from kernel panics due to the Nvidia Card, which is a pretty common issue. I can't have the Logic Board replaced anymore, so I decided to go for a workaround. I was experiencing the issue on Mountain Lion. I had read that Lion (10.7.3 and up) fixes the issue, so I went ahead and downgraded to 10.7 and updated to 10.7.5. I thought that the kernel panics were gone, since AOE3 ran for 15 minutes without a hitch. But then, as soon as I loaded an RCT3 map, the laptop crashed. I couldn't get a crash report, but I'm pretty certain that was the issue.

So, which OS and which updates will help me fix this issue? Will i have to go back to Snow Leopard?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Raptor

UPDATE 1: I just pulled a log from another crash. It's the popular Nvidia kernel panic. Also, I realised that there's still an SMC update left (not in the 10.7.5 combo update), so that might fix it. Fingers crossed.

So I did the SMC update too, along with everything else that was there. I ran RCT3 for a full half hour before the system crashed. On 10.8, I got no more than 6-8 minutes. I suppose this is the best that I'll get. It'll have to do.

Give. The fact Apple refuses to acknowledge nor do anything about the 2008 iMac's that are magically "fixed" by downgrading to 10.6.2(this proving it's a software issue), I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Sorry.

Sorry.

Well, this is a hardware issue in some Logic boards which is instigated by bad software. Apple did acknowledge this issue and offered free replacement of logic boards of all laptops suffering from it within 3 years of purchase, but mine is 3 months over.

However, considering that I have to use this MacBook for another 2-3 years, the Lion fix is better than what Mountain Lion did.
