Hi All,

Trying to gauge the future of my 2010 Mac Mini (500 GB HDD, 4 GB ram). Primarily used as a streaming device for my TV, but over the last year has struggled to stream in HD without lag. My 2013 MacBook Pro does not have this issue and has taken over the job.

For the Mini: is this an issue of HDD or Graphics Card? Don't mind updating to SSD, but want it to fix the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Hi MTL18
I use the same 2010 MM for TV, mainly BBC using a VPN here in NZ. I don't have any issues at all. Mine does have an SSD plus 16GB of RAM and Ethernet over power-line so no WiFi issues. The easiest thing to try is upgrade the RAM to at least 8GB

Thanks so much antz359. I thought the mid 2010 Mini maxed out at 8 GB ram? You're running 16?

Yeah, I would upgrade the RAM and put an SSD in there. I have a 2010 white MacBook which has the exact same hardware (Core 2 Duo, GeForce 320M) and it plays back 1080p video no problem, no matter the source.
