I currently own a refurbished Mid-2010 MacBook Pro that I got a couple years ago and has been working great until recently. Recently, my computer randomly restarts. It seems to happen more often if I don't use the computer for a certain period of time or if I'm using a good amount of RAM/Processing power for a certain amount of time.

What are the cause(s) of this issue and how can I fix it? Would upgrading my Mac or installing and working from Linux/Ubuntu help at all? Or do you suspect this is more of a hardware issue?

When I get another crash report, I'll save it and post it for you guys. Unless you know how to access the crash log. Info about My Mac is below:

Version: 10.13.6 (High Sierra)

Brand: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010)

Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

Storage: 1 TB (Solid State SATA Drive)

It might be worth removing and re-seating the RAM in the slots.
Of course you need to take the back off to do this.
You'll need a Phillips #00 driver to remove the screws.

If you're planning on keeping it for a while longer, you might consider putting an SSD into it. It will make it boot faster and run "snappier".

VERY easy to do with the back off. You'll also need a TORX T-6 driver to remove "the nubs" on the side of the existing drive and put them onto the new SSD.

If a 1tb SSD seems "beyond the budget", you could try a 500gb instead.
Of course, some data might have to be "left behind", but one does what one has to do...
