Zaft macrumors 601 Original poster Feb 27, 2017 #1 So at this point I am running Sierra on it and the fan is almost always on and its just overall really sluggish.. Is there anything I can do that will improve this or is it basically bye bye and upgrade?

Freakonomics101 macrumors 68030 Feb 27, 2017 #2 I had a 2010 and it was also a little sluggish. Sold that and upgraded to a 2012 and I'm getting much better results. But my 2010 was never overheating, and it wasn't "really sluggish," just sluggish enough to bother me.

At times around the top left of the keyboard it gets so hot its almost unholdable. I may try a full reinstall of the OS and see if that helps.

elf69 macrumors 68020 Feb 27, 2017 #5 even my fiancee 1st gen air with el capitan not getting that hot. gets warm yes and is very sluggish/slow but it is a 1.6GHz with 2GB ram and a 1.8"HDD.
