I just thought I'd come back and give a little update. After putting the original hard drive back in and using it for a bit. I put the SSD in the external drive and got it to boot so I put it in the MacBook and it teased me and then wouldn't boot so I made the genius apt.

After 45 minutes of errors they kept it replaced the cable and install El Capitan... Best $50 I've spent this whole process.

It's like I've got a new computer!!
 
Insane. I guess the cables are meant to be replaced when the drive is replaced, unless you're lucky.

Nope. I swap my early 2011 to an SSD without swapping the cable.
