hi!
I currently own a mid-2012 i7 MacBook Pro (unibody but not retina) with 16 gb of ram and a 7200 rpm hd. No ssd. The processor was top of of the range back when I bought it.

How would the current 13" MacBook Air base model compare in terms of performance ?

I don't do much heavy-duty processing but desperately wanted a matte display and this is the one model where this was a bto option.

I'm now beginning to feel that I need a speed bump in everyday tasks and I'm contemplating a Macbook Air despite the inferior display.

Any thoughts are welcome. Thank you!

Stick an SSD in it, I am assuming it's the 15 inch as matte display only available on the 15 and 17 inch.

Your processor is faster and has 2x the number of cores than than the air and you'll have a 650m graphics card that Will kill anything in the air graphics wise, your only big bottleneck is that standard hard drive for everyday tasks, app opening etc.

For a few hundred dollars your computer will be better than new.

Good thinking, many many thanks!
