i am looking to find out if the

Seagate BarraCuda 1TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 2.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s 5400 RPM 128MB Cache for PC Laptop (ST1000LM048)

is compatible to replace my original internal hard disk that came in my Mackbook Pro (MD101ll/a) mid 2012 model. I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

It will fit but it will suck. Get a SSD. 1TB will run 110ish on Amazon. My MBP 2012 has a 2TB MX500 and I get 520/480 R/W's. The drive you want will give you around 150 tops. IF you can't afford the 1TB SSD, I would get a 128 SSD for around 25$ and put the 1TB Platter in a caddy where the DVD drive is.

and put the 1TB Platter in a caddy where the DVD drive is.
or put the SSD in the DVD slot. I may be mistaken but Macs include a sudden motion sensor on the HDD port only, so if you put the HDD in the DVD caddy it won't be protected from drops like it would be in the HDD slot. The DVD slot is the same speed as the HDD one so there's no reason to be swapping the drives around like that.

Better idea, I forgot the SMS was a thing. I haven't used a platter drive in years...

You don't want to put this into a MacBook Pro to "upgrade" it.
Absolutely not.

What you want to do is PUT AN SSD into it.
THAT will be a real "upgrade".

Either 512gb or 1tb.

Or better yet 2 ssd's in a raid 0. That's what I have in my mid 2012. Can't make it any faster then that.
