I was wondering if anyone had a Samsung UE50JU6800 4K TV and has hooked up their MBPr to it. I got this TV today and have been very impressed with it, I plugged my MBP into it with a HDMI cable and enjoyed looking at photos in crazy detail! It wasn't till I tried a 4K short film that I realised it was only connected at 30p, I've seen on Apple's website that my MBP does support 60p but I'm not sure about the TV or if there is something I need to do differently.
I think you need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Club3D-Displayport-1-2-HDMI-CAC-1070/dp/B0194F1MY4. The HDMI output on the MBPr is not 2.0 so it does not support 4k60.
Yep the HDMI will only do 30 Hz you need the correct mini display port to HDMI 2.0 cable to run form your thunderbolt port to get 4K 60 Hz.
slightly off Topic, as I'm considering 4k t.v. purchase (for sky q ) which t.v. services do you use with you Samsung UE50JU6800 -I'm going 43" max though was considering a Sony 4k model. (currently have Samsung 720HD past 6 years)
Thanks everyone for the replies, will have to pick up one of those adaptors. I don't watch a lot of live TV, I mainly use the Plex app. I was about to get a Sony as I had heard good things about android TV, but it seems they are very slow and sluggish, the Samsung JU6800's are quite smooth. Panasonic TV's don't have a Plex app available, so that ruled them out for me.
Purchase Sony 4k t.v. today, same day delivery, Android is a little slow as is YouView. Though Sky q hd picture is stunning.
