So you mean 2048x1280 resolution with normal graphic setting for 2013 Tomb Raider is an unreasonable expectation? To be honest I don't think thats what you meant super-ultra-high settings, correct me if I'm wrong sir

Yes, thats what I mean. I am sorry to disappoint you but there are some empirically attested principles to how the world works, and they are certainly not based on your fantasy.

Here are the facts: according on benchmarks, to play Tomb Raider on high settings and 1920x1080 resolution with good performance, you need a GeForce GTX 680 or better. Which is over 3 times faster than the AMD M370X. And that is on Windows, where graphics drivers are much better than on OS X. The M370X is ok, but its still a mid-range laptop graphics card — and not even the fastest one in class. So if you want that kind of performance, you certainly bought the wrong product. Which btw is completely your fault for making conclusions based on your fantasies.

So is it normal for the most expensive Macbook pro on market, even with the normal high graphic setting (2048X1280 High graphic setting) of Tomb Raider that I still can't play the 2013 game smoothly? The game was literally made for Mac Im not even using bootcamp or visual machines. One more thing I noticed is whenever I play those 3d games the wind flow is quite loud as well, the laptop can get hot really quick.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB

Running games on portable machines is always going to be difficult.

A desktop class GPU has a thermal and power budget of over 150-200 watts to play with - for the GPU alone. The entire power budget on your 15" machine is under 100 watts. For the CPU, GPU, screen, SSD, etc.

Getting good 3d performance within that power budget is just not going to happen. You can get good performance "for a portable machine", but desktop 3d hardware is always going to be much faster due to the laws of physics. It's not that portable GPUs are crap - considering the constraints, they're pretty amazing - but those constraints put a real hard limit on just how quick they're going to be.

Whether it is a Mac or a PC, portable gaming machines face some pretty difficult challenges. There's a reason that high end PC gaming laptops are heavy, have massive power supplies, crappy battery life, etc. They try stuffing desktop hardware in a portable machine, and 4+ kg laptops plus 2kg power supplies with tiny battery life is the result...

This is why I bought a 13" machine this time around - i tried to use my old 15" as a gaming machine as well and it just doesn't work very well. Because of the above reasons.

Oh and as to being "made for Mac" - you know Apple make desktop Macs as well, where the game will run much better?

Anything above 1920x1080 is an unreasonable expectation, even for most desktop GPUs.

Not really. My PC (core i5-4430) runs 2560x1080 on everything with mid-range settings and good playable frame-rates, with its 2 year old GTX760 mid-range (when it was new) GPU.

A desktop Windows machine from 2015 with a more recent GPU will fare much better.

Is it a realistic expectation, or rather disappointing performance, for something you spent $2500+ on? Yes, and I get that. But you bought the rMBP, with an AMD GPU that is not high end. That's just the way it is. Not a gaming laptop.

I was just saying if its normal the high specs Macbook pro perform like this, I'm completely fine if my Macbook pro can't handle my gaming fantasy because I didn't buy it for gaming, as I stated many times above.

The laptop simply isn't equipped with good enough hardware to support gaming at such high resolutions. Even some of the desktop setups won't run games above 30fps at such high resolutions.

Buying an expensive Macbook doesn't guarantee good gaming performance, because generally games run better in the Windows environment. For the money you spent on your Macbook, you could have gotten a Windows laptop which would have ran circles around your Mac when it comes to gaming, but it doesn't sound like your main reason for buying the laptop was for gaming, so there's no point to go any further.

Yes, it's normal. The AMD card is not capable of running games on ultra at high resolution.

Yeah man, Except gaming performance I'm really satisfied with my new Macbook pro actually, really fast system and I can use Logic pro X really smooth while virtual machine and other apps are running.

Get Boot Camp and install Windows and all your troubles will be solved.

I played Tomb Raider on my 2012 rMBP with GeForce 650M perfectly fine.
