I received my smart case today and it's quite beautiful. I was hesitant about the blue lining but it's a really slick shade of blue. It looks even nicer in person.

Here are some pics:

I picked up a black one yesterday but nearly went for the midnight blue as it is very dark and looks nice. Only issue with the new cases are they are the exact same thickness as the previous model so the slimness of the Air 2 is lost in it. It has a very prominent lip from the edge that runs around the screen. I think mine will be going back.

I've been looking for input about the thickness of the new case, I was expecting it to be a little thinner to match the new form factor of the iPad. You sure it's the exact same thickness? If so, then that's quite disappointing. And that would mean using one of these cases, the fact that Apple decreased battery life in favor of a slimmer iPad is now even more-so, a completely useless and negative attribute.

I hope my gold Air 2 has no issues because that's what I want to put it in the midnight blue, had it in mind and your pics sealed it OP. Beautiful. It looks almost black so the quick discoloration i was worried about shouldn't even look bad. I'm getting it.

Sure am, I posted a pic of the Air 2 in the new smart case next to the retina mini in the smart case. Same thickness!

I am trying to decide whether I want to do a case on my Air 2. It feels so nice without the case but I don't want it to get all scratched up. I have the midnight blue on my 6 plus and it looks and feels really nice. Might go same route with Air 2.

Plus the headphone hole isn't cut properly. You can see partially through the hole.

Light leaks through the headphone jack cutout. Looks terrible.

Yes, I noticed that too but I think it would of been hard to avoid because of the slimness of the iPad and that may be the reason they have kept the thickness of the case.

Is there any difference at all between this case and the old smart case other than probably slightly different dimensions for the Air 2?

I picked up a smart case for my retina mini 1 just a few days ago and I'm not sure if it's worth swapping it for the "new" retina mini smart case because it isn't clear if there's any improvement.

I'm guessing it's just the availability of new colours?

The are a few differences between the Air 1 and 2 cases such as cut out for the more switch, different position of the volume buttons and microphones. The mini cases are identical.

I feel like the stand function of the Air 2 case is much better and more stable in video mode than the Air 1 case. I don't have the old case anymore to compare so it might just be my mind playing games.

I just got my air 2 and I also have a midnight blue smart case. I have to say, I love the case, I HATE the fitment. The case feels great, and has a nice color and I think it's really nice with gold.

But I can second the fact that this is just the air case reused. The ipad falls deep inside of the case and honestly this feels very unlike apple. The fitment kinda sucks because the ipad is so recessed in the case. I may have to return it :(

Feels really good though...

That was my experience too. Its even difficult to use TouchID with the iPad sitting so recessed in the case. I am planning to return it but will wait until I find a better case on Amazon or eBay. For the expensive price I would expect better fitment for this case and its lacking.

Hmm that's odd the reason you get one and pay the steep price is because of the precise fit. I expected a very slim design with the beveled edges barely protruding. It sounds like a bad job of barely any changes to it from the original Air design. I think I'll pass after all and go with a shell case instead. With a screen protector my TouchID is not hindered but you don't get to it as easy as being naked if the Smartcase makes it worse forget it.

Good move - this Smart Case is a waste of money. The edges are way too high to make this case practical. A cheap eBay or Amazon case would fit better. Apple is laughing all the way to the bank. Save your money.

Here are some pics in comparison with the retina mini in it's smart case to show who it should look - Air 2 on the left, mini on the right.
