Midnight MacBook Air M2 is here! First impressions and photos thread

Just received delivery of my M2 MBA in midnight, 8C/10C, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Original delivery estimate was July 18.

First impressions:

• The midnight colour is SEXY as. Dark navy blue in certain good lighting and changes to black in other angles
• Midnight is a fingerprint magnet. Every single touch will show up. That's what the polishing cloth is for right?
• The Apple logo on the lid is bigger than the M1 MBA (I have a skin with a cut out for the logo for the M1)
• Notch noticeable at first (never had the 14 MBP) but is starting to fade into the background
• Feels thinner and lighter than the M1 MBA in the hand.
• Substantially lighter than the iPad Pro 12.9" with smart keyboard
• Keyboard feels great to type on, and the non-wedge shape angle is a non issue. It feels more tactile than the M1 keyboard. Aren’t they the same?
• Speakers are directly under the screen now and not on the sides of the keyboard.

Will add more impressions as I start using it.

I recently bought a black rain stand, and black magic keyboard with number pad and track trackpad for the new M2 when it arrives.

When looking at a full screen app or video, does the notch ‘disappear’ with the black background, like it does on the 14” pro?

Also, how is the screen in general? Good contrast, sharp text?

Did she? It was hard to hear over her freaking out about the MacBook setup screen which she has seen a billion times.

Yes it fades into the background.

Screen feels crisper and sharper than the M1

I don't know ... if the notch weren't there (or Apple on back), you could easily convince me this is a mid tier Windows laptop from any old brand

Yep looks good but weighs a tonne...I returned my combo after a week.

I like the squared off look when its closed from the top lid (where apple logo is).

if they weren't going with wedged, I wish they at least beveled the edge like unibody polycarbonate MB's but even less edge, something like this on the wrist roll off:

To me the MBA is much lighter, thinner and less noisy/no noise and feels much more premium in the hand.

Not that model in particular, but I've seen many a PC laptop that looks exactly like this...maybe even a chromebook

It's just a very generic design (to my eye)

Just not as special as it once was

I didn’t order it . I would have ordered it if it had come with a 15” screen. Still rocking the MacBook Pro Max 16”. The MBA in midnight color looks stunning 😍

I haven’t heard from him. He’s been MIA.

Yes but they don’t seem as noticeable compared to the exterior.

You can also see smudges on the trackpad itself if viewed at a particular angle
