I Would like to get an ipad but I feel that I should wait for the second generation to get the following killer features FOR ME:

    1) Isight camera,
    2) Support for multiple accounts (that way my wife and I can keep our email, facebook and bookmarks apart)
    3) Perhaps an integrated SD card reader or/and an USB port to attach a keyboard or thumb drives.
    4) a simple finder (not sure if it already has one) to browse files on the ipad and my mac.
    (5) I want the WIFI only version, but would love to be able to tether ut to my blackberry and use its data plan.

And since I have not played with one yet, could anyone tell me if its possible, to browse from the ipad (via WIFI) the iphoto library on my MBP?

I don't think the iPad is for you, given what you want. Even the second generation will probably only have #1.

If you want to wait, then wait. No one knows what the next gen is going to have but there's a chance it'll have a camera. Integrated SD card reader / USB port - who knows.

Multiple accounts - if they come, they'll probably come in the fall with the OS update. The same goes for the finder - but what's the problem with Spotlight as is on the OS?

Tethering - if your smartphone allows it, there's nothing preventing the iPad from connecting to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

If those are all KILLER features for you, then no - don't get the iPad. Either wait until the fall or next year.

You want a laptop. You don't get the concept of the iPad.

Honestly, I'd say just go to your local Apple store and check it out for yourself.

The best you can hope for is a camera. I don't see a file system, dual user login, or an SD card reader (that's what the camera kit is for) in the foreseeable future.

i wouldn't doubt a camera being included in version 2.0.

you can tether if you can turn your phone into a wifi hotspot. there might be a way to do that. google around.

as for the rest. not gonna happen

Mobile devices from Apple (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) will always be internal storage. Apple won't allow files to be loaded from a SD card.

So then am I missing the point of the camera connection kit?

1 - maybe but don't hold your breath
2 - we are more than two generations away from apple tablets with full os x and support for multiple logins. It will happen as CPU power needs come down and memory cost continues to decline, but I would not want a full os x capable tablet with 90 minute battery life and that is where the technology seems to stand today.
3 - the camera kit comes close - perhaps this might arrive for next Gen provided it doesn't undercut apple's ability to charge big bucks for small memory bumps
4 - I want this now on my first gen iPad. Maybe this will get addressed with os 4.0 and maybe it won't. I have workarounds for this and don't mind waiting.
5 - tethering to your bb is a bb problem not an iPad problem. Check out tether (formerly known as tetherberry)

If the above are reasons that would prevent you from buying an iPad, then get a netbook. If you care about the tablet form factor more than you care about having a real computer in a tablet form factor, then by all means get an iPad. But your wish list is mostly out of the question for some time to come.

Yes. Apple will likely never let you run apps or play media from sd card. The camera kit is targeted at photos and also allows a USB keyboard but probably not a mouse and certainly will not let you pop in a ten dollar 16gig sd card and get 32gig of memory on your 16gig iPad. Apple wants that extra hundred bucks for a little more memory.

Well, I am not bashing the ipad. Perhaps I should first mention what would I use the ipad for.

For a few years now I have been wanting a device that I can use at home to browse the web, see youtube videos and view my photos. My 3 year old MBP has worked fine, but it is too big and heavy to use it in bed.

I considered getting an ipod touch and although it would be great to use in the car, it would be too small for browsing the web at home. This is why I feel that the ipad would be great.

If it had a camera I could probable use skype to video chat with my sister and brother-in-law. If it had and sd drive I could import my photos straight from my camera -I see that there is an adapter to do this, so I guess the sd reader is not needed, but you would still need to carry the adapter with you.

I guess that is was not meant to hold your complete iphoto library, probably just the most recent albums, but I would like to be able to connect to my mac wirelessly and browse for an image within my library.

I am sure that my wife would love to use the ipad. We both have different facebook, and gmail accounts. That is why I wanted to be able to manage two accounts so that when she logs in, all of her bookmarks and her facebook acoount are set.

I could live without the finder, I guess is something that I expect after years of using computers, probably not needed on an ipad.
