Yes, I have exactly the same feeling. I ordered two grey sports a 38mm and 42mm and cancelled the 38m straight after my apple viewing on Saturday morning.

I've not worn a watch for about 20 years so its all new again to me.

I only wanted to spend the minimum on 1st gen.

I'm not that sporty but want to become fitter and was hoping the watch would help.

But I now think 42 mm stainless steel with Milanese Loop would be more my thing long term and fit better on the wrist.

Plus they do a sports band that could be fitted for jogging etc.

I've made another appointment and will decide after that.

Of course I would have to wait till June for the Stainless steel and the sports is due a week on Friday.

Do it! I wavered between the SS and SG sport but eventually (and thankfully) ended up going to the 'Tim Cook' model...42mm SS with white sport band. Just wish I could get a custom crown Color like Tim!

The only thing I don't like about the SS is the extra weight. The sport was like a feather you wouldn't even know you have it on. The SS would be good if you worked in a office but as a true daily driver the space grey sport is a good middle of the ground choice for me.

The SS is feather light compared to my current SS Citizen.

I think Rene Ritchie said it best: "This is Marc Newson/Jony Ive First Edition, so I decided to go all out with the Black SS."

I have tried them on, and I prefer the polished stainless steel over the matte aluminum.

I have an iPhone 5s, so the aluminum surface would be similar. It looks great, but it dents easily, even from small dirt particles.

Have you ever tried bumping your iPhone against tables or door frames and see how it would look? It's usually in your hand or in your pocket, so you're most likely not going to have to deal with that. Those kinds of bumps happens to watches on a normal, daily basis.

The next time you walk thru a door, try sliding your iPhone against the door frame or rub it against the edge of the table. Do that for a week or two and tell me how it looks. You wouldn't think of your wrist doing that, but it happens very often. You reach your hands into closets, drawers, cabinets, boxes, or whatever; the watch is going to bump or rub against something. iPhones are different, it's usually in your pocket, in your hand, or on a table. It doesn't take much abuse unless you drop it. I'm certain you've seen enough tests videos to know what will happen to gorilla glass and aluminum.

I have stainless steel watches and I've bump them too. They may have micro scratches, but there's no dent. The Ion-X/gorilla glass will scratch. The aluminum will dent. That is why after a month or two of ownership, the aluminum watch will look terrible, even with it's matte finish. You'll see scratches on the screen, and dents on the aluminum case. So much for saving the $200 difference. The only thing that might help is the space gray aluminum. It'll make scratches and dents less noticeable, you'll still see it when looking at it closely.

Most 7000 aluminium alloys have incredibly high tensile strength and hardness ratings, much more than regular aluminium. I'm not sure if it differes to the alloy used in the iPhone, but it definitely shouldn't scratch or dent that quickly. Although a large impact may dent it, it will show less micro scratches than the stainless steel model (basically any SS watch scratches very easily, though they can usually be buffed out). The light weight of the Sport should also protect it from any major bangs.

With regards to the Ion-X glass, at the moment I wear a non-sapphire watch and the glass is flawless, and I've banged it in to many tables and door frames. Of course the sapphire will be even more scratch resistant, but I haven't had any problems with glass.

I disagree about the SG aluminium hiding scratches more - if a scratch goes deep enough to remove the anodised coating, it'll be very noticeable.

In the end, you just have to choose whether you want an almost guaranteed scratch-free screen but higher likelihood of showing scratches on the body, or a screen that may scratch but a body that should be forgiving to light scratches, but may dent on a heavy impact. What would be perfect for people OCD about scratches would probably be a matte finished SS watch with sapphire, but since that's not an option, you essentially have to choose what you're less worried about.

We'll just have to wait and see, I trust that either material will perform well. As of today we know nothing about Apple's special 7000 series aluminium alloy, nor their "80% harder" cold forged SS.

For those curious, the aluminum in the iPhone 6 is a 6000 series aluminum. So the new 7000 series aluminum Apple has created for the Apple Watch should be stronger than the aluminum on the current iPhone's.

I can't get past the SS price point, so I never even tried one on. I have a May 13-27 date on a 38mm and a June date for the 42mm.

I'm still on the fence as to which size I want, so I don't want to second guess materials as well.

Looks like I'll be sticking with the Space Grey. I was button click away when I decided to hold off.

The next one, which I'll probably buy, I'll go all in for. Imma give it some time to mature, first.

I originally wanted to go with a Sport in black with the black band, but after trying it on as well as the Stainless Steel, I'm sold on the SS. The Aluminum one just feels too light and plasticky. I guess that's why it's called the Sport. Over time a stainless steel watch with scratches actually looks fine, I think it gives a watch personality. I can't imagine a matte aluminum Sport looking nice with dings/scratches.

I love the weight of it also, I prefer that and the SS feels lighter than other steel watches with link bands.

All collections look good, my favorite sports being the Space grey, but with the black leather loop. However, the Stainless Steel is in a completely higher class of its own. It's not even a fair comparison. Stainless Steel for me

If anyone in the UK has ordered a stainless steel and now thinks they might want a Sport, or vice versa then I have both a stainless steel and Sport ordered so a swap could be possible :)

Woah woah, I think you're making a terrible mistake. I mean you are going to be wearing this thing on your wrist every day. The SS is more durable, a finer material, has more heft, is better looking, will be better for anytime you want to look a bit more formal (work, going out, fancy occasions, etc). Do you really want to be regretting your decision every day? That's assuming you ever even GET the thing, I mean JUNE?! Who can wait till June? I know I can't... which is exactly why I'm trying to get you to cancel your space grey order... :p;)

Don't think anyone else pointed this out. For what it's worth, I was with you about the space grey until I went to my store appointment and to my eye, the sapphire crystal had a slightly crisper view of the screen. That did it for me and went stainless.

You've got me rolling over here :D

It's a hard choice (and you're not helping!), but with a 14 day return policy, I figured I'd go with what I wanted originally. Hopefully after I get my watch, things won't be as backordered as they are today and if I really feel as though I went wrong, I'll go SS.

Even though I ordered the SS 42mm myself, and 38mm SS for my wife. The thing to understand is the 7000 series aluminun heat treated, mixed with magnesium and zinc. Will be just as strong as steel, this type of aluminun is use to build 2000hp drag cars. AKA Funny car, the Engine head and block is made from 7000 series heat treated aluminun. With other alloys added, like magnesium, zinc, nickel, etc. the aluminun used for the iPhone is not the same. Apple know u would wear the watch on your arm.

So they make each of the materials stronger than usual. Even the gold models are made stronger. The aluminun ion x glass may not be as scratch resistant as the sapphire. But the Sport model along with the others will be very durable out in the wild. Just a matter of preference in the end.

Hopefully you are right. I dont know how much stronger than the current iPhone, maybe 5 or 10% more resilient.

I am still sticking with the SS for now, and let all the use cases play out for the aluminum on this first generation.

Hey man - I have a day one space grey sport ordered but would love to swap it for the Stainless Steel watch. Would you be interested in a swap?

Thanks.
