    Guys,

I just got my iMac, and I have a problem with mighty mouse. Sometimes, when I move the mouse just a little, the pointer will "jump" to one side of the screen... it's very frustrating.

Is it due because my mousepad has different colours on it ? That's my only explanation. Maybe the mousepad different colours cause reflection on the pointer that make it jump all over the screen...

    Any help/explanation ?

I've had similar problems. Carefully wipe the lens if possible, usually its just dust on the lens. If not then it may well be a good idea to try a different mouse pad.

It's the mouse pad. Don't use one, or use one with a solid color.

I think it's the mousepad indeed. I don't have the problem using the mouse on my desk...

Could that really be the reason? I began using a multi-colored mousepad with my new iMac because I had worn the finish off the desk. The jumping cursor thing happens to me several times a day.

I've noticed that plastic covered mouse pads don't seem to work as well as cloth ones do with the Mighty Mouse.

    Worth a try.

I just got my iMac a month ago... and now i'm having the same problem...

At first I used a black mouse pad, and then one day i went to the apple store to buy a doc for my iphone, then I saw this gray rounded "apple mousepad" with the apple logo in the center ( you know what i;m talking about right? ), and now that i read this... i think the problem for the Mighty Mouse is the mousepad that apple design for their products... wow thats odd, weird and it doesn't make sense to me...:confused::confused:

Its dust or hair, I sometimes have this problem and especially if I am playing a game, a curved cat hair can make your mouse act as if you were moving it across that hair or something. I tried blowing in, somewhat effective. Any tips on how to clean the mighty mouse laser? kinda hard to get into that tight space.

    Glad it's not just me

Cool, I have been having the same weird mouse issue with my new Mac Pro. It doesn't overly bother me, but I'm glad to know what the possible causes are, and that it's not just me!

Is it a wireless Mighty Mouse? If so, it's a bluetooth firmware upgrade that you need to get. Mine did that a lot until the new firmware upgrade. :)

I don't think it would make a difference because it has to do with the sensor.

Mine isn't wireless. But I do have a mousematt with lots of different colours on it. I will try a plain one.
