I cracked open my wireless mighty mouse a few weeks ago, it was fiddly but works better than ever now.

Getting the little magnetic rollers back in the holder took a while though - they kept sticking to each other.

I glued the base ring back on with superglue, so the next time it clogs up will be fun!

according to the reviews on apple's online store, this is very common, which sucks. as others have said, try cleaning the scroll wheel with alcholhol or better yet, buy a better designed mouse :p

I've found that the absolute best way to clean the Mighty Mouse is to take a white sheet of computer paper out and lay it on your desk. Then, flip the mighty mouse and press the ball down on the paper. Roll the mouse's ball in all different directions on the sheet of paper.

Look at the paper in disgust, as it is now covered in filth!

Enjoy your Mighty Mouse again.

wow.... thanks man... this one really works

It worked! Thanks a whole bunch. I would think that Apple would do a re-design on this by now.

[...] and now I cannot double click and the mouse pointer miraculously moves by itself whilst on the mouse mat, usually waking the computer.

is your mousepad colorful or does it have pictures? try using a solid-colored mouse pad, it might work. it did for me...
the pictures confuse the optical thingy and it moves the mouse pointer.
