Old Windows 8 machine with iTunes installed. It's iTunes library contained original downloaded content and ripped CDs.

On new computer - Windows 10 - I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. I then deleted the iTunes Music folder and then copied over the old iTunes Music folder from the old PC.

This seemed to copy over very quickly.

But now I find some of the old ripped music from CD did not transfer over.

What am I doing wrong here?

It might be that not all of your media files are located in the iTunes Music folder.

To resolve this, in iTunes on your old PC (where the original library is located), click File > Library > Consolidate Files.

This will copy all your media to the iTunes folder, which you can then move to your new PC.

    ok thanks Brookzy.

After I have consolidated files, what folder do I actually move over?

The folder that is listed in iTunes Preferences > Advanced.

In my case that is /Users/<username>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media

This Apple article is also helpful for guiding you through the process, including important steps such as deauthorising your old PC: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204318

Not sure if this would be the same process as "consolidating" from inside of iTunes, but I would have "merged" the files upon copying from Finder, then deleting.. That way old and new content stays..

Brookzy, followed the guide - worked great.

Tech198, did not need to merge as there was no new content.

    Thanks guys.
