HI,
I have a small business and have used Quickbase to build a database to manage it. Recently, Intuit has really jacked up the pricing so that now I am looking at alternatives to Quickbase. I looked briefly at Filemaker Pro before, but I didn't know if I could really create the DB from scratch. Now that I have a functioning DB with Quickbase, is there a way to migrate to something else...like Filemaker Pro? Suggestions on a platform that I could develop myself??

Don't think FileMaker can directly import your database but you should be able to export tables to csv files and import them. You'll have to make up the relationships to the tables though. Download the trial and have a go?
