Is it possible to use migration assitant by using an external?

I'm reformatting my Macbook cause its in the wrong format, I've backed up my HD to an external using CarbonCC... to move my files back over, can I use Migration Assistant?

cheers

Yes, you can use migration assistant to move files and settings from a BOOTABLE backup of OS X on a FIREWIRE hard drive

Thanks, yeah its bootable AND on a firewire drive...

Back in an hour or so I guess!

Actually, would it be possible to install a fresh copy of Leopard, then use migration assistant?

Yes, and this is a better way to go. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to move our hard drive over to an external firewire drive, then did a clean install of Leopard, then used MA to move the files back over to the internal drive.
