hi! i am upgrading from an intel macbook to an intel macbook pro, i intend to transfer my stuff using apples migration assistant utility...could someone tell me if the old macbook will be wiped or will it remain in the same state? i.e. will the files be cut or copied? will all the files and apps still be on it after migration? as i might use it from time to time because of its portability!

cheers

Use Set Up Assistant. When you fire up the new machine it asks if you want to transfer info from an older Mac. It works MUCH better than Migration Assistant. Everything transfers as is and you don't have to worry about a new user name (which you'll have to create if you use MA). I went through this a month ago transferring fro an iBook to a MBP. I ended up doing an erase and install on the MBP so I could get back to Set Up Asst. and make things easier on myself.

ok so i pretty much have the same cercumstances.

i have an ibook and got a mbp. all i want to do is transfer the music. nothing else.

i have a firewire wire
i have an external hard drive (ipod)
so i can do and have tried migration assistant but it wouldn't let me only transfer my music.
i tried putting all my music on the external hard drive but couldn't find it technically, i couldn't find the exact file that all the music is under. i kinda got burnt out on this idea because when i take the external drive to my mbp i don't exactly know the cleanest way to put it on my mbp.
then i was going to go through advanced setting under preferences and change the music folder location. i didn't do it because wouldn't that just make itunes look in that folder for all the music and not actually move all the music there.

this is my first post by the way. i have been searching for two days on how to do this right and i just found this forum which is a god send.
ya... thanks in advance
