Hi! I would be very glad if someone could help me.

I've changed hdd in my mbp and i want to transfer data from the old hdd to new one in mbp. i use an external enclosure for hdd via usb. The problem is that in some step of transfering, the application freezes (it could be freezed for whole night even i have only 50-70 gigs to copy). It responds but it dont copy and hdd is not working - i can hear it. if i quit the application, i can see that free disk space is reduced to exactly that 50-70 gigs, but there is no new information in hdd.

So could anyone tell me, where migration assistant is saving data, so i could delete it.

In the past, I've had the best results with doing a clean install of the OS and then running the Migration Assistant application from the Utilities folder rather than the one that pops-up during the OS installation. You do need to remember to create a user account with a different name from the one you will be moving over and delete it afterward when going that route.

You could start fresh and just choose to copy the applications. Then run it again and just choose to copy the documents and again, etc to move over each of the file types. This may help you find where along the way it's freezing.

The loss of available space without the files showing could be a catalog issue and would need to be repaired using the Repair Disk function in Disk Utility or with a system utility like Drive Genius.

thanks very much. But the problem is - i'm doing exactly as you said.. I make clean install.. I start MA in Utilities folder... I'm trying to transfer only apps... But still it's the same. It stops in about "ETA 49 min".. hdd is on and if i try to open it using finder it will work properly (and i will hear its working). MA is runnig (it is dot down or someting).. But nothing happening.. And if i quit i will see my hdd became smaller (exactly the size of my apps, but there is no new stuff on my mac=) ).

I'll try disk repair in the morning (it is night now in russia=)).

maybe you could recommend me some other apps for migration? it would be nice..

Thanks!
