Hi,
I'd like to migrate a macbook pro 15" (2015) to a Macbook Pro 13" (2017) using the Migration Assistant. It is possible using a Wifi connection but it is painfully slow.

Is it supposed to be possible to connect the two macs with a USB 3 - USB C cable and use it for the migration?

When I plug the cable to both macs, the 2015 mac says "Cannot use Thuderbolt Accessory. Connect accessory to a Thuderbolt port on this Mac.". The Migration Assistant still offers only the wifi connection for the migration.

What's the correct way to proceed?

cheers

update: nevermind, I ended up making a clone of my disk to a external SSD and I'm restoring it from it. The restore speed is super slow though: "7 hours remaining at 8 MB/s"
The SSD is connected via a USB-C to the macbook

Glad you got it worked out. I would have tried an ethernet crossover connection if I wanted a direct connection. Not sure it would have faired any better though.
