Migration Assistant

Ok so in the future I plan to upgrade my Mac Mini to an SSD. I have two questions.

1. Can I take out my stock hard drive and place it in a Firewire 800 enclosure and use Migration Assistant?

2. Does Migration Assistant transfer my Applications?

You could place the new SSD in the enclosure and then use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the hard drive. That would make it an exact duplicate and be the simplest solution for you.

I might do that but I want a fresh start on a SSD.

Migration assistant is great. It transfers everything that you previously had on your mac including applications, documents, settings, preferences for applications, and everything else you had. I have used it when i had to erase and format my disk for bootcamp. I was amazed that everything was back as it was before without me having to do any work at all.
