I am thinking of a new Imac. However I am concerned about the pain of getting all your programs, entire content from my laptop to a Imac.

Does migration move everything? I see it does say applications. I have a lot of programs I use that I have downloaded off the web and it will be a big pain going back and trying to see if I can redownload them.

What doesn't the migration assistant move?

thanks

I've used MA 2 or 3 times now and have not had a problem with losing anything. I would, of course, backup all your work to an external drive first, just to be safe. :)

Ok so you are saying that it will transfer everything over to the new computer?

It did when I used it hell it even moved over the old password I had confusing me for minute there until I figured it out. Do it when first presented with the chance during install/setup otherwise you need to create a second user to log into if using the same user name on both machines as you can't migrate while logged into an identically named account.
