Manufacturing note by apple on the product page on Apple’s Store - “band is not water resistant”

Apple has the put that as a disclaimer, Because they can’t make any guarantee’s, but by all means, you *can* use the stainless link and Milanese loop in the water. It’s all about proper care with rinsing it off with fresh water and drying it off, and issues will arise. And I can tell you firsthand experience from being a stainless band owner.

Sure - with that said why not use a sport band which is much more appropriate for swimming? Seems like a lot of work to ensure you treat it properly when there are other bands that are much better at that job. I’ve also seen threads on Reddit that for exercise swimming that it can be tricky to keep it tight in the water to keep the heart rate sensor functioning properly. Again don’t know because I use sport bands in the water.

Its Matter of choice really. But my point is, you can use the stainless steel link/Milanese loop in the water, it’s not an issue.

Not really. And I doubt everyone rinses off their stainless bands with water when they are through with the ocean or pool, that’s just what’s recommended by Apple. Will somebody experience an issue if they don’t wash it off? I doubt it, and I can attest to that, Being I never had an issue with any of the link bands being exposed to water. But for such an expensive band like the link/Milanese loop, why not take the extra measure by just rinsing off and drying, it takes 30 seconds.

Also, keep in mind the sweat that is generated on those bands on a daily basis from your wrists, which would have a similar effect as the ocean would acquire and have never had an issue with any corrosion with the 316 L stainless.

For me, the heart rate sensor and swimming features is useless, I don’t use that personally. If somebody wanted a tighter fit for a band in the water with the heart rate sensor, then yes, the sport band would be your best option.

I really like the Milanese. I've owned my s0 since launch and it is easily my most worn band. No sign of damage to the watch.

I thought it’s only the black band that can scratch the watch? The gold version doesn’t seem to scratch the back or screen.

Technically, the regular and gold stainless Milanese loop can still scratch the casing, because it’s metal on metal contact. It’s the black stainless Milanese loop that can scratch the Sapphire display, because it equally as hard with the diamond like carbon coating that is exclusive to the black Milanese loop.

Okay that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

I would be worried about swimming with the revised Milanese band simply because it can now open up completely and the magnet has a tendency to slip.

I’m confused on this. My 44mm gold band does not do this. I can’t get the magnet through the loop. Also all the Milanese straps on Apples website say not suitable for swimming anyway. I don’t think the Milanese straps are water proof like the watch.

Did the band come with your Series 4 watch, or did you buy it separately?

If you purchased it separately, it's likely the 42mm version.

The current 44mm and 40mm Milanese bands opens up because the magnet can pass through the slot on the other band, reportedly so the watch can lay flat on AirPower pads.

Apple recommends wearing the sport loop in a different orientation for swimming because of the motion a swimmer would make could cause it to fall off. With the Milanese magnet as loose as it is, and now being able to pass through the other band, I would never swim with it.

My band came with the watch. I stupidly left the grey protector muff over the watch while connecting the strap. Then tried to slide the magnet through the loop to avoid having to remove the strap again but mine does not go through. I wonder if there are two batches.

interesting... maybe better call apple and ask if is supposed to do so or not

I don’t know where the falling off hype is coming from. Maybe swimming would be different.

Mine goes through, but not without perfect alignment and some force to push it through. Try again.

Okay. With some force it will go through. I didn’t try so hard previously.

A) That’s why don’t understand the worry about that it opens by itself.

B) Series 0 to 3 couldn’t be pushed through.

C) I love my Milanese. It’s looks great on all occasions. It breathes better outdoors and during exercise than sports band. Since series 0 I have not managed to scratch my watch.

VERY comfortable and classy. scratches the watch very easily (i bet every watch is scratched by it rega4dless rhe effort one puts not to make contact between the band and the case, but micro scratches are only noticeable under certain light conditions... luckily) and passes through quite easily in my experience...

BUT pro/cons balance make this band my favorite together with sport loop.

Love this band, but its slowly starting to scratch up everything. haha

Left side of my MBP where i occasionally rest my wrist, the one i wear my watch on, is all micro scratched up that when the sun or light hits it, it looks kind of cool. Wish I had an old SSSB that I could test out customizing by purposefully scratch it's casing in light circular motions. Will try it next year haha

I've just purchases mine separately and the end does not pass through. The box is labeled 40mm (not 38), and the image inside is reminiscent of a series 4. Maybe they've just re-packaged a 38mm?

When I tried one at the Apple store, it caught on my arm hair in three different places before even trying to fasten it. The sales guy said it was designed not to do that. Regardless, it did for me. So I had to pass on this style.

My only qualm with the band in general use is that it has a tendency to loosen up over the day. Because it is a single magnet holding the fit in place that happens. The Leather Loops seems to be the best designed band of this style.
