I loved the idea of going the army bag route. Way better looking than those fat coat looking bags everyone seems to be getting. More durable too.

Unfortunately even though there's tons of great bags out there that are cheap, I end up liking the expensive one (though it's still cheaper than lots of ipad bags from the US)

It's the "Russian Army Officer Uniform Leather Documents Map Bag / Case"
dimensions are: (22 x 30 cm) so the ipad 2 *should* fit without a ton of wasted space (fingers crossed) shipping was expensive but it comes straight from the Ukraine. And come on, how many awesome soviet russia jokes will it inspire?

I think it looks fantastic too! Total cost (bag plus shipping) was a bit under $one-apple-smart-cover

Thanks

I really like the military bag.. looks like others did too, the price has already gone up.

It would be $23 shipped.. which well.. for a canvas military bag.. pretty sure I can go to the local armynavy and get it for $10-12.. So I may go have a look. I've never been one to pay as much in shipping as the item I buy.

anyway, looks a bit more now than what you posted.. but a good find. I would love to find a bag just like this that can hold a fuji x100 and ipad.. wonder if this will hold the fuji (problem is any pocket won't be padded so I probably need to put the fuji in a case).

Looking around.. it's available on amazon from a reseller for $15 shipped.. fwiw.

I own this bag and used it back in '02 while travelling in China. It's a great value, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

1) minimal padding/protection. That's the deal with most bags actually, outside of the camera gear bags with foam inserts.

2) The strap has no padding, is thin and does not have a swivel. For short trips it's no problem, but for extended periods of time with a bit of weight in the bag it will dig into your shoulder.

For the price, these are just nitpicks. If I were craftier I would replace the strap with something more modern, and add padding and some water repellant. I ended up just getting the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack so I could carry a whole lot more with me if needed.

http://amzn.to/nID5Tc - there are various options to buy, some ship free with super saver.

The military bag would fit my camera it seems, but the engineer bag would probably work better.. but is over twice the price.

That STM bag looks great once again.. they make what looks like a great product, and once again, overbrand it.

I wonder when people will understand not everyone wants to pay for the right to advertise.. I mean, I get having a logo.. but two and that big.. no thanks. I understand a lot of people don't care about branding.. or think it is irrelevant.. I'll send you all a patch to sew on to your bags advertising my company :p

That's two times I have wanted a stm case and two times I won't buy it due to overbranding.

Memorable quotes from The Hangover :)

Phil Wenneck: You're not really wearing that are you?
Alan Garner: Wearing what?
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just ****in' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.
Phil Wenneck: So does Joy Behar.

Hey there's skittles in there

did you take the logo off the backs of your iPhone and iPad? Or take all the branding off of you car? Does your company have one? Or maybe if you look hard enough you'll find one in your undies? It's part of life would you pay a $1 for a plain can that didnt have the word coca cola on it if the just left it blank. Would you trust a bank that just had a sign bank on it? Would have bought an iPad if you didn't know it was an Apple iPad? Christ when you go to the grocery store do you just grab the first thing that says beer? Dont think so. Branding is part of life it's everywhere I bet you have Nikes and not Snikes

Go to the fabric store buy you some fabric, and make your own

There's a difference between branding and overbranding, which is what he was talking about. But by all means, go ahead and overreact. Just know that it makes you look silly.

My map case arrived. It's decent, and the iPad w/Otterbox Defender case fits great. Also carrying a spiral notebook and a textbook (when going to class), and there's extra room. Great purchase. 5 stars.

Is it one of these you got, are they the same aside from color? I'm curious it does have a pocket for the iPad right, but does it snap shut or does it just slide in and stay put there? If you can post a couple more flicks that'd be great especially if it's the black one :)

I'm starting to think that the small ipad + camera case I am looking for is going to be a military bag re-purposed... this thread is helpful :)

Gotta say I got the bag and don't really care for it. The strap is too thin, which wouldn't be too bad if that were the only flaw. The major flaw is that the strap attaches to the top of the bag as opposed to the sides. This causes the bag to hang at an odd angle when anything is in it. Good thing it was cheap. I'll be going with a different bag.

Just ordered this bag - Looks great and not bad at $50 especially with Lifetime Warranty. :)

I bought bag from J&R for $39 n it's perfect size. The one issue I have with the black color bag I bought is that it attracts major lint. Right after I clean it, seconds later loaded with lint again. Hate the material it is made from.

REI Boarding Bag

I purchased this last year for a super small iPad bags and it works great.

My iPad just has the smart cover, might not work if you have a bulky cover, works great with smart cover. No really padding, so if you drop it there could be a problem

It won't carry much more than iPad, wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, paperback, bottle of water. If you want to go small this is a great bag and now on sale, which for REI probably means it is coming out in a new color later in the year
