Finally caved and bought Minecraft on the iPad - I was holding off waiting for them to do this. To my surprise, it works pretty well! It's kind of wild playing a game with full mouse and keyboard support on the iPad. Playing it on the iPad really feels like a taste of the future of what iPad gaming could be.

I'm playing on the magic keyboard, and everything just works, even with the trackpad.

Finally, I don’t need to play Minecraft with keyboard and mouse on my HP laptop that gets hotter than the sun.
now just bring bedrock edition to MacOS and Linux, then I’ll be happy.
This is why I love playing games on my iPad Pro instead of my Mac. It's fan less! Once I got used the silence of my Xbox Series X, it's difficult to accept laptops that are loud as a private jet during load.

I was wondering the same thing. I hope it works with USB mice and keyboards, too. Guess I'll have to try.
As mentioned above, it does.
I found a post that said the the game uses the LWJGL graphics library, which renders using OpenGL from 8 months ago. I don’t think they’ve made any changes since then.
Oh, okay.
My guess is that because there's that weird price discrepancy ($6.99 of iOS // $29.99 for Java for Mac) but seriously this is no longer an issue and would get bedrock running on the Mac. I like Java, but I like the convenience and features of Bedrock too
That wouldn’t be an issue if they ported the Bedrock version directly to macOS instead of just making the iOS/iPadOS version available for macOS.

Everything costs "time and money" these days, so what's your point?
Ain't worth the time or money for MS. see Diminishing returns.
Do nothing and collect $1000 or put out a lot of effort to get $1100? The Third Rule of Acquistion: Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to.
How do you know that?
Is it a great feat of sight to see the sunrise? Is it a great feat of strength to lift a feather? It is not great feat of insight to see that MicroSoft sees its iOS/MacOS products as 2nd class. Look no further than how they treat their flagship product: Office. The Mac version is crippled compared to the Windows version. Why? Because they want people to buy Windows and use Windows.
They can't remain complacent forever. OpenGL has been deprecated for years now. Newer versions of Metal provide significant improvements compared to OpenGL.
Oh? Office for Mac have been and continue to be a crippled version of the Office for Windows.

I understand you want a better version of MineCraft on iOS. Hail, so do I. But MS doesn't care what you or I want unless it makes them a lot mo' money, enough money to affect the bottomline.

according to Minecraft support, iOS keyboard support not available until next patch.

“I see - upon double checking the option is not yet available for IOS devices

this is only for ANDROID devices as of the moment and will be available on the next patch or update

Isn’t that from almost a month ago? The release yesterday provides iPad Keyboard control I would guess it would be the same for the iPhone.

Why did they acquire Mojang then?

The development team that maintains the Windows version of Microsoft Office is not the same development team that maintains the macOS version of Microsoft Office.

Why do you think they even bother putting their applications on a competing platform?

Mobile games make massive amounts of money. Minecraft is no different. It has a marketplace where you can purchase cosmetics with in-app purchases.

That's completely outdated and irrelevant to this thread.

Speaking of noise and heat - the M1 iPad Pro runs Minecraft like butter. It doesn't even get slightly warm.
I bought the 11 inch last month and sold my ipad pro 2017 to my girlfriend. To my surprise the 2017 is still as snappy and quick even for multitasking like my 11 M1 pro.

Default, except I increased the render distance to 16 chunks. The bedrock edition of Minecraft doesn't demand much.
Mine is all features on, (nice leaves, transparent clouds, etc) and render distance of 22 chunks. Smooth. WISH I could push the render distance up to 32 or more like you used to be able to do.

The latest release of Minecraft for iPhone and iPad introduces Bluetooth mouse and keyboard support for in-game controls.

To use a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, update to version 1.19.10 of Minecraft for iOS and iPadOS, released on the App Store on July 12. As noted on Reddit, keys can be remapped in the Settings app under General → Keyboard → Hardware Keyboard → Modifier Keys.

The update also adds music directly to the iOS and iPadOS app, eliminating the need to download music from the marketplace, according to the release notes.

Minecraft is one of the most popular iPhone and iPad games. Priced at $6.99 on the App Store, the game ranks #1 in the "Paid Games" category.

Well, I'm using mouse and keyboard with Minecraft on my iPad right now, so that's wrong.

I assume they're using some sort of third-party support system that's never kept up-to-date with the latest changes in the game.

See above.

He's wrong. Update the application and try it out for yourself. It's available.
I’d like to. It doesn’t work at all. I did update. Removed and Reinstalled. Does r work on my Logitech MX Keys.

Speaking of noise and heat - the M1 iPad Pro runs Minecraft like butter. It doesn't even get slightly warm.
I had to come back and correct this - after playing for many hours, the performance seems to have dropped significantly. I had to lower the render distance to 12 chunks, and even then, performance is sometimes choppy. The iPad Pro 11" with M1 still doesn't even get slightly warm though. It seems that the M1 is not being fully utilised here.

Maybe the developers need to do something about that?
