Do any Minecraft players know if Big Sur supports Minecraft Java?

I was playing on Catalina and no problem. But I switched to Big Sur and now I cannot access any multiplayer servers. Error message is: "Failed to connect to the server. Failed to log in: The authentication servers are currently down for maintenance." But this doesn't seem to accurately reflect the problem, as I can log in on an older MacBook Pro running Catalina.

I also upgraded from Java SE to Java 8, which I believe is 64 bit. There still might be a compatibility issue with Big Sur-Java.

Has any one either been playing successfully with these configurations or had problems and fixed them with a possible Microsoft patch?

Any suggestions on resources?

Thank you,

Minecraft does work on both Big Sur and the new M1s, however, not well in the case of the latter and no doubt because of not running native. Graphics lags and is jerky.

For the M1 Mini, I just did a normal download and it installed fine and started with no problems. Just isn't very playable on the new Macs, after using it on machines that it is compiled for.

Plays fine on a 2017 i5 iMac (Big Sur) and a 4 core Linux box (Debian, XFCE).
