Mini Display port video only?

Could anyone confirm that if I connected my 6.1 MacBook 2009, via its mini display port, to a TV only video would be present without sound?

I'm thinking of buying this:

but I'm a bit put off by the prospect of the cable carrying video only.

If thats the case - how do I get audio as well? do they go out of sync if two cables are used? OR can any of you experts out there suggest a simple solution

Yes, 2009 Macs do not carry sound via Mini DisplayPort.
