I am thinking of buying the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to connect my MBP to my 1080p TV. I see that it won't play the sound through the TV, but will the sound still come out of my MBP's built-in speakers when my TV is plugged in?

Just wanted to make sure!

-Tom

sound will be from your macbook. Minidisplayport is just digital video.

I agree that 1344x756 looks best. I also have the Monoprice adapter, a new Mac Mini and a new 40" Samsung 1080p LCD TV. However, when I push the info on my remote, the TV reports that it's at 1080i. Is there anyway to get 1080p resolution?

Chances are you'll never notice the difference unless you're sitting 12" away from the thing...

I bought the Monoprice Mini displayport to HDMI cable for my Macbook Pro unibody, but can't get it to work with my Samsung LN52B750 HDTV. I have the cable hooked up in the HDMI/DVI slot, but I'm getting the "No signal" message.

In the System Preferences, my Mac recognizes the Samsung so I'm at a complete lost. I tried turning off both devices and turning them back on while the cable was connected, but no luck. I'm still running on Leopard 10.5.8. Do I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard to get this to work?

Thanks in advance.

That setup should work just fine in Leopard. I'm using MDP-->DVI (Apple) and then DVI-->HDMI by Belkin. Just make sure you're using a compatible resolution/setting with the output settings and it should work just fine.

Thanks for the quick response, but your suggestions didn't work. I tried all of the different resolutions on the Mac and still get the "No Signal" on my TV.

I also tried changing the resolutions on the TV's configuration in the Mac.
Right now, it's set at 1920x1080, colors in millions, refresh rate at 60 Hz.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Have you tried going into System Prefs > Displays > Detect Displays

Tom

Yes Tom, I tried that and that's how the Mac recognizes the Samsung TV. I can calibrate the Samsung's profile on my Mac, so it looks like the Monoprice cable is not the issue. I have the cable hooked up to the HDMI/DVI slot on the TV.

Is there a setting on the TV that needs to be adjusted? My TV had the 240Hz option turned on so I tried turning that off and no success

Hmmmm, well I have a Samsung TV LE40A559P, and I have been using my monoprice HDMI connector for ages. I know you are running Leopard, but it used to work fine when I had leopard. I sholdn't think the hertz setting should make much difference. Here are some screenshots of what I have going on...

I'm not sure if these screenshots will be of much help. As I remember, when I first plugged it all in a few months ago, it was pretty much plug and play except for setting it to the correct pixels for my TV - I settled with 1080p as that is really the best.

Further to my last, which I am sure won't be much help, does the Samsung TV show up in System Profiler?

I don't have the same resolutions options as you do with the 1080p.

In my system profile, it shows:

This remains a BIG mystery to me. Thanks Tom for the screen shots.

This may be a silly question, but I did this when I first got my TV...

When you press the 'source' button on your TV remote, does it say EXT.1 at the top left of the screen or HDMI?

Other than that, I really can't see why it isn't showing up on the screen.

Pressing source lists the following:
TV
AV1
Component 2
PC
HDMI/DVI
HDMI2

I thought it was the graphics card that was the issue, so I changed to the higher performance one and still no luck. I wonder if I can successfully hook up to a different TV... I'm debating whether I should return the cable or not, but I'll be losing out on shipping. Hopefully, it'll work itself out somehow. I'll just keep googling the issue and try different things. Thanks Tom.

The "1080p" and "720p" entries are new to Snow Leopard, so that's why you don't see them in 10.5. Also, what Higher performance setting are you looking at? By changing that you're just changing the power preferences, nothing to do with the graphics setup since the 13" model only has the 9400M for graphics performance.

I see - thanks for clarifying.
Still stuck with the "No signal" issue.

996c2, have you found an answer?

I am having the same problem with my Samsung LN52B750 and Snow Leopard on my Macbook Air. I am using the monoprice mini DVI to HDMI cable, and the Samsung only displays says "No Signal" when changed to the HDMI input. I've tried multiple HDMI ports on the back of the Samsung, and updated the Samsung to the latest firmware. Samsung shows up under the selectable displays where I can choose the resolutions--I've tried a bunch of different ones, turning Overscan on and off, enabling/disabling mirroring, etc..nothing but no signal. Anybody know of a solution?
