Hi,

in my imac everything was working fine. I have my mac connected to the TV thru an HDMI cable. A couple of weeks ago my audio output started to work intermittently (it plays for a few minutes, cut out a couple of seconds, then it comes back).

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Intermittent problem of the hdmi audio out?

Thx!

I have. I use my MBA for my main computer at the moment- until I receive my 27" iMac today;) ANYWAY- When using an external monitor via mDP to HDMI, sometimes my audio goes out and I'll have to disconnect to reestablish audio. I've gone through one mDP to HDMI adapter already- it happened more frequently before the adapter died. I'm on adapter number 2 already and it's giving me problem. The first company that I bought the adapter from was Moshi- lasted about 4-5 months of continuous use- but not abuse. The latest one I'm using is from monoprice.com. Monoprice is usually great quality at cheap prices- this adapter is probably pretty cheap though. Oh well- I' won't need it much longer :D

Yes I did the upgrade to 10.6.8, but I also have Moshi adapter ... If it is the adapter then I can always buy a new one, but what about the OS update???
Maybe I should wait for Lion and if it doesn't fix the problem than I should buy another adapter.
Pls, let me know if you know any workaround ... Thx!

Yes, I've recently encountered this problem. I have a 27" iMac mid 2011 model with a thunderbolt-HDMI adapter connected to a 25 ft HDMI cable going to my Home Theater System where I stream audio and video. Lately, the audio has been intermittent. I'm not sure what changed. Was it an update? My Onkyo tech thinks the HDMI cord is too long and the voltage isn't consistent. But I say it's worked before. I read where someone said it could be that the thunderbolt-hdmi adapter may have malfunctioned. It's true, I can disconnect shut down the iMac and restart and I'm back up.....for a while anyways. The problem is this set up used to perform well and now it doesn't. There is another discussion about resetting the SMC.

Before resetting the SMC

Reset the SMC only after you've tried all other standard troubleshooting. Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to see if the issue still occurs.

  1. Press Command-Option-Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
  2. Put your Mac to sleep by choosing Sleep from the Apple menu. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
  3. Restart your Mac by choosing Restart from the Apple menu.
  4. Shut down your Mac by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu.
  5. If your Mac isn't responding, force the Mac to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. You'll lose any unsaved work in any open applications.
I haven't tried that yet.
