Hello Everyone,

Macbook Pro (Late 2013) 10.9.5 Mavericks
Mini displayport to VGA adapter to beamer
(I searched and couldn't find anyone with this problem)

I recently bought a mini displayport to VGA adapter cable to use my beamer as an extra display.
The first 24 hours it worked and I could use the beamer as an external display which was great.
Only the next day it wasn't working and the beamer kept saying NO INPUT. My roommate has a windows laptop with VGA port and it still works on his laptop (before the incident and after).
I used the same cable only with the mini displayport to vga adapter inbetween it.

I tried everything to solve it.
- Go to display and look for external desktop of mirroring (this didn't work because my macbook doesn't recognize it)
- I did a PRAM reset
- Did a SMC reset.
- Tried the same thing on another beamer and it didn't work. With my roommate (his laptop) everything just works.
- and finally i bought another more expensive Apple mini displayport to VGA adapter and it didn't work also
- I repeated al the previous steps with the new adapter (PRAM, SMC, DIFFERENT BEAMER, DIFFERENT CABLE)

Still it doesn't work.

I really don't know what to do now. I just worked the first day and know my macbook doesn't even recognize it. doesn't matter which of the 2 ports (on my macbook) I use.

I hope there's is someone with a solution because I just don't understand why it's not working or ignoring my cable.

Abazigal Thanks for the fast respond

I tried. on both beamers I keep getting the same message

The Updater could not find a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to update.
Check that the adapter and external monitor is connected, and on, and then retry.

P.S. I also don't get a message to restart my macbook. don't know why

Do you have other ideas?
Thanks

None come to mind at the moment. You have already reset the PRAM; I suppose you could try it again, though I don't you will see any difference.

This might be a workaround, but it if possible to connect a hdmi cable to your projector instead? I assume you are using the 2013 retina Macbook Pro, which should have a hdmi port. Otherwise, bring it in for servicing and see if the Apple store guys can fix the issue.

Yeah I tried the hdmi but then my mac starts doing weird. and the guy in the shop did say something about that hdmi is digital and vga is analog and that those 2 didn't work especially on older beamers

Hmm...if your projector has a HDMI port, then it should support HDMI just fine. I am not talking about using a HDMi-to-VGA adaptor, as that tends to ruin the aspect ratio.

Some random ideas (which you may already have tried).
1) Plug in your macbook to the power?
2) Try switching off the projector, plugging it in, then switching it on again.
3) Turn off the projector, shut down the laptop, plug it into the projector, turn on the projector, then start up your MBP.

I really have no idea. I do hook up my air to VGA and HDMI projectors at work quite often, and they generally work. I looked online; it seems yours is a known issue, but there are no known solutions for this.

Hope you eventually find the solution for this.
