mini dvi to hdmi

i have heard mixed reviews for mini dvi to hdmi. i have a white macbook with the 9400 m in it. will i still get sound if i use hdmi or will i lose sound. i have read multiple posts but i got kinda confused. your help would be really appreciated. if you need clarification don't forget to ask/
 
I'm not too sure about the adapting, but HDMI itself does carry audio.

The problem with that is going from Mini DVI to HDMI. The DVI Connection may be Video-only, in which case it will only transfer video through HDMI, you would need audio to hook up a different way.
 
i figured the video would work but i was unsure if audio would work out of the audio out because hdmi thought it was transmitting sound. that is one of my main confusions
 
No, in your case, you would get only video on the HDMI while your audio output would still work normally.
