mini-DVI to LED Cinema display?

Hello,

This is but loosely related to my Mac Pro, but I have trouble getting definite answers in other parts of this forum.

I have a 24inch LED Cinema display with my Mac Pro and I love it. Only problem: its mini displayport connector doesn't speak with my MacBook's mini-DVI plug.

Can I use simple connectors / adapters to make the connection? Like this:

MacBook (with Mini-DVI connector)
+
Mini-DVI male to DVI female
+
DVI male to Mini Displayport male
+
mini Displayport coupler (female to female)
+
Apple LED Display (with mini Displayport connector)


Or am I forced to shell out 150$ on a full fledged converter?

As far as I know, you need at least this:

plus the miniDVI to DVI adapter.
