Mini-DVI to VGA cable doesn't fit?!

Am I being really dumb... I ordered a mini-dvi to VGA cable from ebay for my black Macbook. When it arrived it was an official Mac cable, which was great, until I realised it wouldn't fit into my Mac's mini-DVI port! Are there more than one 'size' of mini-dvi port or something? And how do I make sure I get the right one?

Are you sure that you got a mini-DVI to VGA or a mini-VGA to VGA cable? The latter was used on ibooks and G5 iMacs, and is what I have. I think there was some site on eBay that showed examples of both connectors. Here's one:

It was indeed a mini-VGA to VGA cable! Good spot. Well they sold it as a mini-dvi, so they've given me a full refund and told me to keep the cable! Which is good, as they're in China and i'm in the UK! 🙂
