all computers should have a 6 pin firewire port. the devices themselves, if not chargeable via firewire, should use the 4 pin (i.e. a Mini DV Cam). My 12" can power an iPod yet a PC Desktop can't...that's just poor design right there.
the difference in size of the port is irrelevant, because the plug itself is still the same size, just the connector is smaller...so the exact same space is required.
