I have a 1.66 ghz Intel CD mac mini.. one of the rev A versions with a SD.

Recently almost on a daily basis the computer has been freezing up on me requiring a hard shut down and restart. When I start back up and click report my computer crash to apple I get the following error..

Anyone have any idea what this means?

    3 ideas for you.

first i would run the extended hardware test on the memory.

second i would create a second or 'test' user account to see if the problem is system wide, or just with your account.

third, you didn't mention wireless, but if you have airport onboard, try turning it off and see if that makes a difference.

best of luck with the troubleshooting. panics can be a pain to trace.

    Thanks for the suggestions..

The extended hardware test can be found on the install discs right?

yep. don't have one handy, but think it's 'D' at boot?! printed on the disc if i remember right...

don't know if it works without having run bootcamp first, but you could also look HERE for a current copy of memtest if you want a second opinion. creates a bootable x86 cd that runs a memory test in an endless loop. good stuff and free.

Seems like it could be a memory problem, but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen similar errors with PC's where it was RAM, but other cases where it was the HDD or other components. It's probably best to run the extended test.

    I feel your pain...

I have a similar (if not identical) Intel Mini and it's doing the same thing ... ever since I updated to 10.4.9.

I've run all the necessary hardware tests, unplugged everything except keyboard/mouse ... etc, etc. No dice.

Re-installed OS X, ran combo update ... no dice -- same problem persists.

I've noticed this error when I've got a lot of network connections open (Torrents).

I've followed the advice of turning IPv6 off in each of my networking ports and then disabling the ones I'm not using (all except Airport). I just got done doing that and maybe that'll make a difference.

I created a bug report at Apple's Radar site and hopefully someone will respond with what they know. It's all pointing toward networking problems and I don't think it's a hardware issue ... it just seems odd that it would surface right after the 10.4.9 update.

When searching around, I found similar error messages being encountered on MacBooks and Core Duo iMac's ... as well as other BSD-based operating systems. OpenBSD project addressed this very error a while back and maybe the changes have not made it into the Apple core yet.

Anyways, just letting you know that you're not alone. :)

I seem to have a similar problem as well. My Mini (also a 1.66 CD,Combo) sometimes hangs on shutdown. I think the problem may be my external Hard Drive.
Do you have an External Hard Drive? Maybe that's the problem? :apple:
