I had a Verizon iPad 3 and at first I was going to get an AT&T mini. My iPhone 5 is AT&T but the more I thought about it I have unlimited on my phone so no way to out the iPad on a share plan plus we just got a MacBook Air so the free tethering from Verizon would come in handy so I decided to stick with Verizon for the mini plus I just transferred my iPad 3 account so I saved Money there too
It is seven countries in addition to the US. If one is traveling to those seven for an extended time choosing the Verizon might be a consideration. I was in traveling in Europe three weeks this year and only one country, Germany is on the LTE list. My AT&T IPad and iPhone worked fine in Germany and the other four countries I visited. Next year I don't think any of my Europe travel will be in Germany or the UK, the other countries for Verizon are in Asia. Canada is possible which is only LTE on the AT&T so If I get a mini it will be on AT&T. At this time for travel purposes choosing AT&T is a minor consideration.

Glad to see those 8 countries, but what happens when I go to Canada. According to Verizon's site - I would have reception in Vancouver and Montreal - no idea if that's LTE or slower. I think I remember reading one could buy a SIM card from a non-Verizon provider and use it in the iPad mini (or other Verizon devices). Is that correct? I have always had AT&T since the first iPhone and decided to see if how I liked Verizon (by buying the Verizon iPad mini) in mental preparation for the iPhone 5S. (I skipped the 5 - have the 4S AT&T - which works well in Canada albeit at AT&T's usurious rates.)

I've been trying to get a straight answer on this reported Verizon sim burning thing for a month now. I'd love to get it resolved so I know which one to buy. I'll be an infrequent user of cell data.
I asked this question in another thread. I was told that Yes, they will burn your SIM card if you don't use data at least once every 5 months. I ended up ordering an AT&T model instead because I won't be using data often either.
As others have posted, since upgrading to IOS 6, many with supposedly "burned" SIMS found that they were "resurrected".
How can that been since ios6 has only been out less the 5 months??? Doesn't it take 5 months of inactivity to deactivate??
You're not following. Deactivation was under ios5. Sim was resurrected after an upgrade to ios6

And for, AT&T it is one in addition to the US.
Great for you, but I am traveling in Sweden, Germany, Japan and US and the iPad mini is officialy supporting 3 countries.
Moreover in the EU, the 1800 frequency start to be reused for LTE which means that there will be even more countries supported ...
Incorrect.
Verizon has a very badly worded instructions on how to stop using cellular, makes people render the SIM card useless.
There is a way to end service, but SIM useable for next time.
