My Mini M4 Pro in base config is amazing, at idle it draws on average 3.5W from the wall.

However, a couple weeks ago I found out that running the very popular app Mx Power Gadget causes the average power to jump up to 9.4W!! (not amazing) I did contact the developer and, since I haven't heard back yet, I thought I would share my finding. The installed version is 1.5.1.

I don't have other Apple Silicon desktops to test at the moment, and it is still possible that the high power increase is due to the Mini novelty.
However, it does sound a bit suspicious.
The two other power stats apps I have installed on my Mini Pro, iStatistica Pro with Sensors plugin enabled and the open source Stats, both cause a much lower power increase when running, in the order of 0.1W to 0.3W.

I would be curious to know how the app it behaves on your systems.

Cheers!
