hi, i currently own a MBP which i upgraded to 4gb ram that i bought from a third party. right now i'm considering buying a refurbed mini to use as a media server. what i'm wondering is is it possible to replace the ram in the mini with the 2x1gb sticks from my MBP.

thanks in advance for the help!

If it is an intel Mini -- Yes, that's perfectly fine. All CoreXXXX Macs use the same type of DDR2-667 SODIMMs.
We have a Guide on intel Mac RAM, for future reference.
