Sounds promising, but I wonder if the environmentalists would ever allow this. They would probably tie it up in court for years and years.

Yeah the way they keep genetically engineered food from starving nations because they think it will make people grow a third eye or something.
 
I find the idea of everyone owning a mini nuclear reactor rather unsettling. Well, obviously, it won't really be everyone, as these things, if they ever really come to market, will undoubtedly be very expensive, and will only be affordable by the most affluent sectors of society. Yet still, the idea of having small nuclear reactors buried all over the place just causes me alarm.

You also need to RTFA. One unit can power approximately 20,000 homes. They aren't going to be quite that prevalent.
 
When they are running down, just let them have enough power to propel them into the Sun.

Problem solved.

The only problem with that is if something goes wrong and the ship carrying them to the sun explodes in our atmosphere it would make the earth not so hospitable.
