Glossy is only good if you like working in a darkened environment. I prefer a moderately bright room, near an open window. I also don't have the luxury of positioning my desk so that all light sources are behind the monitor.
I still think you are speaking from experience using older monitors. I'm typing this in front of a P2421D. It's nothing special but it is fairly modern, and the matte coating is perfectly fine. I definitely don't feel it's grainy or see rainbow shimmer.
There is a quote here from someone using the Dell 8K. Considering he paid $5000 for it he's probably pickier than any of us!
"What I didn’t expect is that the UP3218K is a glossy display, as opposed to a matte display. Depending on the brightness and colors, you might see reflections. With my preferred brightness of 50%, I can clearly see reflections when displaying darker colors, e.g. on a black terminal emulator background, or even in my grey Emacs theme.
While one can mentally ignore the reflections after a little while, I still consider the glossyness a mild annoyance. I hope as 8K displays become more prevalent, display vendors will offer matte 8K displays as well."
Dell 8K4K monitor (Dell UP3218K) (2017) - Michael Stapelberg
Background Ever since I first used a MacBook Pro with Retina display back in 2013, I’ve been madly in love with hi-DPI displays. I had seen the device before, and marvelled at brilliant font quality with which scientific papers would be rendered.michael.stapelberg.ch
Oh interesting for both, maybe I’m just remembering old monitors — I remember rainbowing on them, which is super annoying when doing very high rez workI used to have an HP monitor where the matte coating really annoyed me. It made the image looked really grainy, and some rainbow effects. I found other matte monitors to be almost as bad, or even worse. I have just got an HP Z27k G3 for a bargain price, even though I was worried about the anti-glare screen. It isn't a problem at all. The image is sharp, and no rainbow effects. The only thing wrong with the monitor is the 16:9 ratio, but I'll put up with it for the price.
My current Dell U3011 and U2410 both exhibit some rainbowing and softness. These are older displays from 2011 and 2010. I used a newer ultrasharp and noticed that the rainbow effect wasn't as obvious as my monitors.Oh interesting for both, maybe I’m just remembering old monitors — I remember rainbowing on them, which is super annoying when doing very high rez work
Yeah. SwitchResX will do.I think @Amethyst1 (and me) would be interested in the mode timings for this monitor. 3840 x 2560 @ 8 bit @ 60Hz only just fits into the DisplayPort 1.2 spec assuming there is some form of reducing blanking (such as CVT-RB). I'm not sure how to view that information though. perhaps there is a terminal command?
Can you list which scaled resolution options you get with the MateView?Scale: I guess that one should use the scaled resolution. (one step smaller "Looks like ..1707p".
Count me in!!Dear fellows, based on the OPs ideas I was exited for that device. I got oneand i hope it is as bright and shiny as I expect it to be. If anyone is interested I’ll post impressions. View attachment 1814508
That looks pretty fresh!Hey, I realized that id be a lazy tech-reviewer. Anyways:
Sound: I have tried different cables, HDMI, 3,5mm cable... The Mateview is displayed as output on my m1 Mac and once it is connected there is only stutter, lags.
Ports: the usb-A ports on the screen work well while only using the usb-c cable for the screen and data. It is not slow, charing is also possible.
Scale: I guess that one should use the scaled resolution. (one step smaller "Looks like ..1707p". For me its hard to tell if the texts are sharper in optimized or scaled mode.. since the fonts are smaller...
I think the colors are good, its not possible to catch them with a iPhone 11pro camera 😅
When I close the lid, the Mateview goes black and back on again, but when I lock the Macbook by pushing the "Powerbutton" on my MacBook before closing, then it stays black... I guess that's fine for me.
Here is a Linke where you can get some images:

but they are bad.. maybe you get an idea of reflection/size 😅
Interessingly, they sent it by express mail to get best possible customers experience.
That doesn't show the actual resolution/timing on HiDPI monitors. We really need something like SwitchResX for that. Can you take a screenshot of this panel which you access from About this Mac...System Report
Where are you located at? Did you use a shipping forwarder?Dear fellows, based on the OPs ideas I was exited for that device. I got oneand i hope it is as bright and shiny as I expect it to be. If anyone is interested I’ll post impressions.
Do you like the 3:2 aspect ratio, its colors and the overall sharpnessDear fellows, based on the OPs ideas I was exited for that device. I got oneand i hope it is as bright and shiny as I expect it to be. If anyone is interested I’ll post impressions. View attachment 1814508
When I close the lid, the Mateview goes black and back on again, it mean you can still work when u close ur MB lid?Hey, I realized that id be a lazy tech-reviewer. Anyways:

it says:Can you list which scaled resolution options you get with the MateView?
im not sure if that image answers your questionYeah. SwitchResX will do.
No wake on USB?When I close the lid, the Mateview goes black and back on again, it mean you can still work when u close ur MB lid?
I m in Germany, i Just ordered it at Huawei, there was some kind of preorder special offer since it came out here on August 4. 2021Where are you located at? Did you use a shipping forwarder?
Yes I love it, especially on images with 3:2 ratio like that ones my dslr does, I have many images I have never seen like that. I guess there are very few options to enjoy digital images like that.Do you like the 3:2 aspect ratio
1920x1280 that's itSo, when you connect it usb-c -> usb-c, default resolution is 'looks like' 1920x1280? (pixel doubled as it should be)

Ah ok. I'm in the States which has a Huawei ban at the moment.I m in Germany, i Just ordered it at Huawei, there was some kind of preorder special offer since it came out here on August 4. 2021

It ist super sharp and I like the colors and it is bright.

Yeah, and the stand doesn't allow rotation so no portrait option possible. Well, I suppose somebody on 'there I fixed it' could duct tape it to the wall...I'd be really interested in such a monitor. Then I see they built the electronics into the stand, so no option for a vesa mount....
