Hello, I'm new to this forum, so excuse me if the post is in the wrong place.

I want to connect an i-Mac into a home theater system. An HDMI adaptor will be connected to the mini port output of the Mac. An HDMI cable will attach to a Denon AVR receiver. Can I expect audio to be supplied through this arrangement, or will I need to run another cable?
    Thanks much

That depends. If your iMac is of the latest revision, it will run audio through the mini displayport, but if it is older, it will not.

Thanks for the quick reply. Not sure of the age, is there any way to find out how old it is? Also, when did they start making the audio signal available?

Check "About this Mac". If your iMac has a Core i3 3.06 or 3.2GHz, Core i5 3.6 or 2.8GHz, or Core i7 2.93GHz, it supports the audio out through the mini displayport. This support was added in the most recent revision.

Otherwise, you will need to run a second cable for audio.

Thanks for the help. Since this is a custom A/V install, I think I'll run a stereo Cable just in case.
