I’m brand new here…so I apologize if I’m not savvy to the forum.

I have never owned a Mac, but I’ve been using iPhones/Pads since 2009. I have Mac experience doing graphics work, but that dates back to 1999 and earlier…and in the 1980s when I used to hack the school IIE’s in BASIC.

Anyway, I want to get a new computer, and the M4 Mini looks to be everything that I need at a reasonable cost. I am thinking of getting the base model, but upgrading to 512GB internal, as 256 seems almost useless for a primary rig.

I still use mechanical HDs for my backups, and I have about 6TB that I would like to move to NVMe or SSD. Speed isn’t super important, but I do still record multitrack audio, so it matters to some degree.

Is there a good dock or similar device for the new M4 Mini yet? I found this on Amazon, but it has no reviews:

I just want the ability to add more storage and ports (including older I/O options) without significantly increasing the overall price.

Again, I’m computer literate, but pretty old and outdated these days…so I could use some current advice.

Thank you…

You may want to visit this thread on docks. But it's going to be tough to not escalate the cost when you want to buy 6 TB of SSD storage. (BTW, SSDs are available in NVMe and SATA.)

Yeah, 6TB of solid state storage is going to set you back -- but then again that's the case for any computer you would buy.

For my money, I wouldn't worry so much about a matching dock thing. I'd say just get a good enclosure that meets your speed requirements, versus spending extra on something that "matches" the Mini.
