Well the above article is somewhat disappointing 😒 but again not surprising when $100 dollars more get you a bigger screen.

Thoughts?

I was hoping for a sequel and hope the mini isn’t a one hit wonder. I’d love a longer battery life as this phone was almost perfect except for the battery (thankfully it’s so fast to recharge).
The thing that I personally keep going back to is that the mini, which is the 'lowest' tier of the new phones, is just as expensive as my iPhone X was, which was the top of the line. To put it into perspective.

As far as actually upgrading goes: I'd like more battery life than my X (which is debatable with the mini), I'd miss the telephoto, but I'd gain night mode. My wife has night mode on her 11 Pro, my X lacks night mode.

All in all, for me personally, the value isn't there yet.

The Mini, which is a new phone, starts at $730. The X, which is 3 years old and has a SoC that is 3 generations old, started at $1000 when it was new. The Mini is hardly “just as expensive as the X”.

I was just offered either an iphone 12 mini 64gb, or an iphone 11 128gb for work purposes. I accepted the 11. I've had an XS Max which is still fine, but I'm going to give that to my partner and use the 11 myself. After holding a mini in my hand at the shop it's just way to small for my needs. I'm certain there's a market for it though, but it still seems like an odd design choice.

i am not an “odd choice” regardless of what many here may think. :D

:p

No I have the text at the smallest so no not yet lol maybe in a 2 decades lol 😂 I’ll need to increase the text size

You only save $100 on it compared to the standard 12 which has a much bigger, yet still manageable, display and better battery life.

Are we surprised people actually like big phones with big batteries? We now use our phones as our main computer.

IMO, it depends on a multitude of factors and how each person uses a phone. For me it is not so much about saving a $100, even though it is a good bonus, but more a question of having a great device in a small package. It is the lightest of them all (lighter than SE2), very easy to handle (one handed use) and can fit into many pockets. My average SOT is about 5 hours per day and I can comfortably finish the day with about 25-40% of the battery remaining without any top-ups in between. I downsized from iPhone 11 and am very happy with the switch.

After having the xs , 11pro , regular 12 I can safely say I love my mini . It's almost the perfect 1 hand use phone.

My day starts at 8 and I always do at least 4 to 5 hours of talk time with tons of emails and texts . 3 days in a row I've reached 20 percent around 9pm .

This is on par with the 12 in my use.

Both my 12s have been rock solid signal wise on Verizon .

If they made a mini pro with the 3 camera and a tad bigger battery I would gladly pay 1000.00 .

I think the original note only had a 5.5 inch screen.

OMG that would be beast! 12 Max larger lens in the smallest small factor!

Last Spring, I bought four iPhone SEs (2nd gen) for the family at $200 each (Walmart/ATT deal), and they are serving their purpose. I prefer the smaller phones, so I thought the mini would be perfect for a lot of people.

I thought the mini would be more appealing to guys because we generally put our phones in the front pants pocket. My experience is that large phones in front pockets are uncomfortable. I realize that I am generalizing here, but woman have purses and often don't wear pants with large front pockets, so pocket ability is not as critical. My wife never uses her front pants pockets....actually, most of her pants don't have front pockets and barely have back pockets.

Then there is hand size. You would think that the mini would be better for woman, but it is still too big for my wife to use one handed. Most guys can operate the mini and SE with one hand. So, the smaller phone gives guys one handed capability, but not so much woman. All jokes aside, one handed operation is really nice and useful.

In a couple of years, I would love to see a new SE with the same form factor as the mini. They could skimp on the camera and use a less expensive screen technology to keep the price down.

It’s the same reason no one buys compact sedans anymore and gets SUVs instead. In today’s culture bigger is better. Bigger houses, bigger cars, bigger waistlines...

For those with the mini, do you turn on the setting to make text larger?
I discovered that the best experience for me was to keep the text at the default size, but use the BOLD setting and it works perfectly. Everything is dark and very crisp.
