No, it's not. Do you own both?

The top two things the mini needs is a better screen to improve the readability of the small text on the screen and a browser that can handle more than at most two tabs (ignoring basic features that Apple just doesn't want to add like a shared file system, support for usb peripherals and storage, memory cards and video output).

Do you own any iPad?

iPad 1/2 displays both had a resolution of 1024x768. Here's a link for reference:

Not only is reading tiny text bad for the eyes, you forget this magical thing called ZOOM. I don't know what you're smoking (it's got to be strong stuff) but I have 8 tabs on my iPad mini and switching between them does not make the tab reload.

The mini is a good size and if was retina then I wouldn't have hesitated to replace my iPad 3 with it. But once you go retina, there's no going back.

I have a retina iPad 3 that I haven't used since I got the Mini. The light weight and slim form factor far outweigh the lack of a retina screen, IMO. When the Mini goes retina, it will be a killer device.

i think the mini is too small to be of much for me, then again I got a new Ipad to replace my laptop so it will be much webbrowsing and such where the bigger high res screen is nice to have. If I could bring the mini I could bring my iPad 4 as neither will fit in any pocket I have and mini or regular doesnt matter when ir is in your hand/bag.

I do like the design if the mini though and half wish the bigger one had that.

Do you own any iPad?
Yes, including a mini which I use every day.

Uh, what's your point?

Not only is reading tiny text bad for the eyes,
No, it is not.

The excessive need for zooming is precisely due to the screen. Why not make the next mini with a 64x64 resolution. Letters are perfectly readable in 64x64 with magical ZOOM.

There isn't even anything to debate here. It's a statement of fact that as little as two tabs with a bit of graphics can send the mini into page reload insanity. Hell, even one tab sometimes ends up reloading after you've been using other apps. This is well known and just plain stupid. The screen isn't really Apple's fault, but this kind of intentional underspecification to maximize profits is.

Depends on the usage. I got an iPad mini last week as a gift. I'm returning it tomorrow since I need the full size. I find the mini to be too restricting for my purposes (I take a lot of notes with a stylus). I find it funny how on one end we're making the phone larger and on the other we're making the tablet smaller.

Earlier you claimed that the screen resolutions were different.

No, it is not.

Yea, the 3 optometrists I've had over the last few years were all lying to me.

So let's get rid of zoom all together. In your view, it's useless. So let's make all text in the world size 5 font. Or something ridiculous.

It's not a fact. It's a POS and a lie. I'm browsing an art gallery right now. Along with 2 CNN tabs and 1 NY Times tab. No reloading. Either you love to hit reload and lie or just plain out lie. Either way, you're wrong. And that is a fact. I don't know what world you live in, but in mine, companies exist to make money. And to make money, you need to make a profit. So your logic is saying anyone or any entity that is not breaking even is at fault for intentional underspecification. By the way, underspecification is not even a word. It's made up just like all your BS claims.

Reply in red.

No, I didn't.

While your anecdotes are nice, it's not part of any established medical science, so I'll assume you've misunderstood. I have no idea why you seem to be against something that would make using the mini less straining though.

Zoom isn't useless, but the need for excessive use of zooming should be avoided. You seem to think I'm suggesting that people should read an entire book with a 12 pt font (which is too small to be very crisp on a mini). I'm not. I'm talking about everyday use. Browsing the web, looking something up in a textbook, and so on. The mini would greatly benefit from a better screen.

Nope. It's a well known issue. Even this forum is full of mentions of it. It's not a controversy or my opinion at all. Everyone I know with a mini (which granted is only four people) notice it too. Heck, it's an issue with other iPad models as well.

Apple is certainly within their rights to do whatever they want to maximize their profit. At least you acknowledge that this is the reason for the mini's poor specifications.

By the way, underspecification is not even a word. It's made up just like all your BS claims.
English is not my first language, so I'm sorry that you didn't understand what I meant. Oh wait, you did.

I don't understand why you spend so much effort defending the mini's flaws. Did you make it or something?

No, I didn't.

I'm not defending anything. Nor did I acknowledge poor specifications of anything. Learn to read AND comprehend. Trust me, it's different than what you have been doing so far.

My experiences differ from yours. I'll leave it at that.

Yes you are. You seem almost distraught that someone would even suggest that the mini has flaws.

Big words from the guy who thought I was disputing the screen resolution, and not the acual point of the quote (that the density is almost the same as a retina iPad).

My experiences differ from yours. I'll leave it at that.
That the mini's screen is not almost retina is not an "experience," nor is the fact that the mini has issues with tabs reloading.

The thing is for me that the non retina screen is extremely noticeable for me. The pixels are extremely annoying. When I first got the iPad 2 I noticed the pixels (even without looking at specs). It was so bad that I sold it and waited for the iPad 3.

I hadn't touched my daddy iPad since I got the Mini until last week when I factory reset it and sold it on eBay!

I also use the iPad Mini way more than I ever used the big one!

Just went to the store to check out iPad Mini and iPad 4.

I'm sold on the mini. I came in with the expectation that the screen will be similar to an iPad 1/2. But it was sharper. Sure iPad Mini w/ Retina will be more amazing but I'll just upgrade to that later.

Have both but only use the mini and now donated the full-size to my 15 month old twins. The mini goes with me wherever I go. Pop it in the pocket of my jacket and ready!

I just bought the mini a week ago today, my previous tablet was the Nexus 7 so I am used to smaller tablets. My wife has the iPad 3 and by far I prefer the mini. While the screen isn't up to par with the 3, the weight and size make it for me. I doubt I would go back to a full size iPad unless they do indeed reduce the weight and bezels by a large margin.

Well, I'm a lover of the mini and love taking it on the subway and trains, basically replaced my iPhone (which sees 10+ hours of use a day), for a week, and I really liked it, but I'm holding off for the next mini, with a retina display :3

However, the next iPad (full size) is apparently going to be lighter and thinner, along with less bezel. And I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for us mini lovers ^.^
