I was wondering which standard Mac OS X apps can be removed if my Mac Mini is going to be used as an HTPC with Plex.
Like obviously iTunes can't be removed, but Preview can. Are there any apps I shouldn't delete because Plex uses them and I might not realize it?

Just leave the default apps alone. You've got more than enough hard drive space. If you want, you can use Xslimmer to strip out the extra languages and the non-intel code from Apple apps. That'll free up at least a GB in many case.

As for Preview, you might need it to quickly preview or resize or crop cover art that you use to tag your video files.

I would do that quickly with my Macbook Pro.
I would be in the same room on the same network.
I can access the hard drive, quickly get content, edit it, and put it back.
I do it that way now.
Harder to do on a mac mini with a 32" 1080p resolution and coffee table.

i would still just leave the default apps on there. it wont hurt your storage space too much, and you dont want to risk having to reinstall something because you wanted to save a couple of megs. maybe not leave ilife on there, but other than that i wouldnt worry.

jsut do a reinstall of the os, and dont select ilife, or any printer drivers or extra languages. that should slim it down enough
