Some forums I have posted on have the first two posts by a newcomer cleared by a moderator before appearing about 12 hours later.

We do that (http://www.macosxhints.com), and it works ok, but our traffic is pretty low compared to MR. It does a great job allowing us to mod & ban for spam.

Still, it's a constant struggle to keep up with the posts. And as I said, much less traffic than MR.

MR forum stats: Threads: 205,616, Posts: 2,498,375, Members: 75,580
MH forum stats: Threads: 54,130, Posts: 297,566, Members: 41,727

So, it'd be a massive challenge for MR, IMO. Not something you really want to burden the mods with. In some instances it's already a challenge to keep up with massive threads going way off topic and degenerating into flirtation.

Your typical spam..

free *technological device*, prescription drugs, mortgages, pr0n, etc..

But some of the "winners" have been:

plastic surgery spam
RPG spam
Private Investigator (PI) spam
Get into anyplace in Las Vegas spam
